  11. Choose the “Install updates” option from the list of options and click on the “Install” button.
  12. When the “Update progress” window pops up, click on the “Close” button.
  13. When the “Windows Update finished” window pops up, click on the “Finish” button.

4. Reset the Windows Update components

  1. In Control Panel, click System and Security.
  2. In System and Security, click Windows Update.
  3. On the Windows Update screen, click the Change Settings link.
  4. On the Windows Update Settings screen, click the Advanced tab.
  5. Under the Automatic Updates section, click the Change Settings button.
  6. In the Automatic Updates Settings window, click the Update Types button.

  8. In the Select Update Types window, click the Remove All button.
  9. In the Automatic Updates Settings window, click the OK button.
  10. In the Windows Update screen, click the Restart Now button.

5. Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Under the Programs category, select Programs and Features.
  3. Under the Programs and Features category, select the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  4. Click on the Remove button.
  5. Click on the Yes button.
  6. Close the Control Panel.

6. Run the DISM tool

  1. Open the Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Type "dism /online /enable-feature /featurename" where featurename is the name of the feature you want to enable. For example, if you want to enable the Windows Update feature, type "dism /online /enable-feature /featurename WindowsUpdate".
  3. Type "dism /online /enable-feature /featurename" again to confirm that the feature has been enabled.
  4. If you are prompted to restart the computer, restart the computer.
  5. After the computer has restarted, type "dism /online /disable-feature /featurename" where featurename is the name of the feature you want to disable. For example, if you want to disable the Windows Update feature, type "dism /online /disable-feature /featurename WindowsUpdate".
  6. Type "dism /online /enable-feature /featurename" again to confirm that the feature has been enabled.
