The error code 0x8e5e0408 happens when the computer is unable to communicate with the printer. This can be caused by several things, such as a loose connection between the computer and the printer, or a problem with the printer's drivers.
1. Restart your computer
- Restart your computer.
- In the Start menu, click Shut Down.
- Click Restart.
- In the Windows Restart dialog box, click OK.
- After your computer restarts, choose Troubleshoot.
- In the Troubleshooting Tools dialog box, click Restart.
- In the Restart Options dialog box, click Troubleshoot.
- In the Troubleshooting Steps dialog box, click Restart again.
- In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
- In the Advanced System Settings section, click the Restart button.
- In the Restart Options dialog box, select the option to restart your computer without saving your changes.
- Click Restart.
- After your computer restarts, choose Finish.
2. Check for updates
- In the left-hand pane, click Check for updates
- In the right-hand pane, click View available updates
- If an update is available, it will be listed in the Available updates list. If the update is not available, it will be listed in the Not available updates list.
- To install the update, click Install updates.
3. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
- In the Start menu, click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type msinfo32.exe and then click OK.
- In the System Information window, click the Windows Update tab.
- On the Windows Update tab, under History, click the Show all updates button.
- Under Installation Status, click the Show all updates with an installation status of failed or canceled updates button.
- Under Failed or canceled updates, click the View all updates with an installation status of failed or canceled updates (x86) button.
- Under Update history, in the Installation items list, click the Update with an installation status of Failed or canceled updates link.
- In the Open Update File dialog box, click the Browse button.
- In the File dialog box, locate the update package that you want to fix.
- Click the Open button.
- In the Update File dialog box, click the Repair button.
- In the Repair Update dialog box, click the Change settings button.
- In the Change settings dialog box, click the Troubleshoot problems with this update check box.
- Click the Run button.
- In the Troubleshoot problems with this update dialog box, click the Next button.
- In the Update Fix Results dialog box, click the Close button.
- In the System Information window, under the Windows Update tab, click the OK button.
4. Try a different internet connection
- Open the Windows Control Panel and click on the Network and Internet icon.
- In the Network and Internet window, click on the Connections tab.
- In the Connections window, click on the LAN connection you are having trouble with.
- In the Properties window of the LAN connection, click on the Status tab.
- In the Status tab, under the Status column, click on the Advanced button.
- In the Advanced tab, under the Status column, click on the TCP/IP Settings button.
- In the TCP/IP Settings window, under the Local Area Connection heading, click on the Properties button.
- In the Properties window of the Local Area Connection, under the General tab, click on the Properties button.
- In the Properties window of the Local Area Connection, under the Protocols tab, click on the Add button.
- In the Add Protocol window, under the Protocol heading, click on the TCP/IPv4 link text box and enter the following information: Server: 192.168.1.1 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Name: LAN
- Click on the OK button.
- In the TCP/IPv4 Properties window, under the General tab, click on the OK button.
- In the Status tab, under the Status column, click on the OK button.
- In the Advanced tab, under the Status column, click on the OK button.
- In the TCP/IPv4 Properties window, under the General tab, click on the OK button.
- In the Status tab, under the Status column, click on the OK button.
- Click on the Close button in the Network and Internet window.
- Restart your computer.
5. Reset the Windows Update components
- Open the Control Panel and go to the System and Security section.
- Click on the Windows Update link.
- On the Windows Update page, click on the Settings button.
- Under the General tab, click on the Choose how updates are delivered button.
- In the Update Delivery Options area, click on the Reset button.
- In the Reset settings window, click on the Reset button again.
- After the reset is complete, click on the OK button.
- If the error code 0x8e5e0408 still persists, then you will need to reinstall the Windows Update components.
6. Disable your antivirus software
Step 1: Open the antivirus software and click on the "Scan" tab. Step 2: Click on the "Advanced" button and select "Disable Protection." Step 3: Click on the "Apply" button to confirm the disablement. Step 4: Click on the "Exit" button to close the antivirus software.
