  5. Type "?," and press Enter
  6. Type "help" (without the quotes) and press Enter
  7. Type "cl" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  8. Type "info" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  9. Type "version" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  10. Type "?," and press Enter
  11. Type "help" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  12. Type "cl" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  13. Type "ver" (without the quotes), and press Enter
  14. If the CL.exe file is corrupted, the exit code will be 0x80070020.

2. Repair the Visual C++ installation

The steps to Repair the Visual C++ installation in order to fix error msb6006 cl exe exited with code 0x80070057 are as follows:

  1. Open the "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu.
  2. Click on "Visual C++".
  3. Click on the "Install/Remove Programs" button.
  4. Select the "Visual C++ 2010 x64" option from the list of programs.
  5. Click on the "Remove" button.
  6. Click on the "OK" button.
  7. Click on the "Close" button.
  8. Reboot the computer.

3. Re-install the Visual C++ Redistributable Package

4. Delete the CL.exe file and re-download it from Microsoft

Delete CL.exe:

  1. On your computer, open the Windows Start menu and search for "Command Prompt."

  2. When Command Prompt appears, right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator."

  3. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter: del cl.exe

  4. Restart your computer.

  5. Re-download the CL.exe file from Microsoft. Re-download CL.exe:

  6. On your computer, open the Windows Start menu and search for "Command Prompt."

  7. When Command Prompt appears, right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator."

  8. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter: download cl.exe

  9. Restart your computer.

  10. Re-download the CL.exe file from Microsoft.

5. Update the Windows operating system

  1. On your computer, open the Start menu.
  2. In the Start menu, right-click the Windows logo, and then click Update and Security.
  3. In the Update and Security window, click Windows Update.
  4. In the Windows Update window, click Check for Updates.
  5. In the Check for Updates window, click Yes, update my computer.
  6. In the Search for Updates window, click Install updates.
  7. In the Installed updates window, click the Update tab.
  8. In the Update tab, under Available updates, click the Important updates link.
  9. In the Important updates window, click the Install updates button.
  10. In the Install updates window, click the Restart now button.
  11. After the computer restarts, Windows will start the update process.
  12. When the update process is complete, Windows will restart.
  13. After the computer restarts, Windows will finish setting up the new update.
