If you see the error code 617 when trying to rent or return a disc, it means the machine is unable to read the barcode on the disc. This can happen for a few reasons:

-The barcode is smudged or dirty

-The barcode is ripped or damaged

-There is a problem with the redbox machine's barcode reader

If the barcode is smudged or dirty, you can try cleaning it off with a soft cloth. If the barcode is ripped or damaged, you'll need to get a new disc from the kiosk. If there is a problem with the machine's barcode reader, you can try moving the disc around or inserting it into the kiosk a few different ways. If none of these solutions work, you can always contact Redbox customer service for assistance.
