How do I fix the 5D error code on my Whirlpool washer?

The Whirlpool 5D code is an error code that indicates that there is a problem with the door lock on the washing machine. This error code can happen for a variety of reasons, but the most common reason is that the door lock is not properly installed or connected.

1. Check the drain hose for a clog

  1. Turn on the water to the whirlpool and wait for it to come to a full tank
  2. Open the drain valve on the whirlpool and wait for the water to drain out
  3. If there is a clog in the drain hose, the water will not drain out and the whirlpool will not operate
  4. To fix the clog, you will need a plunger, pliers, and a bucket
  5. Plunge the plunger down into the drain hose and try to push the clog out
  6. If the clog is not removable, use the pliers to grip the end of the drain hose and pull it out of the whirlpool
  7. Pour a bucket of water down the drain hose to clear the clog and restart the whirlpool

2. Check the air gap for a clog

  1. Remove water and ice from the refrigerator.
  2. Open the refrigerator door and check the coils and fan for debris. If any is found, clean it off.

3. Check the garbage disposal for a clog

  1. Turn off the power to the garbage disposal by flipping the breaker.
  2. Remove the cover on the bottom of the disposal.
  3. Remove the drain pipe from the bottom of the disposal.
  4. Turn on the power to the disposal and wait for it to start up.
  5. Use a flashlight to look down the drain pipe and see if you can see anything blocking it. If you can't see anything obstructing the drain pipe, then you can proceed to step 6.
  6. If you do see something obstructing the drain pipe, then you need to use a plunger to clear the obstruction. Make sure to use caution when doing this, as you can easily damage the disposal if you aren't careful.

4. Clean the filters

  1. Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator
  2. Open the front cover of the refrigerator and remove the filters
  3. Locate the filter housing and remove the filter
  4. Inspect the filter for damage and replace it if necessary
  5. Replace the filter housing and close the front cover of the refrigerator
