1. Try updating your system again

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update.
  2. Click on the “Check for updates” button.
  3. If there are any new updates available, they will be listed on the window that pops up.
  4. Click on the “Install updates” button.
  5. When the updates have been installed, Restart your computer.
  6. Check for updates again and if there are any new updates available, you will be prompted to install them.

2. Try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter

  21. In the Troubleshooting Tools section, click Windows Update Troubleshooter.
  22. On the General tab, click Next.
  23. On the Recovery tab, select your operating system and click Next.
  24. On the Report tab, select the checkbox next to Corrupt file and click Next.
  25. On the Fix tab, select your operating system and click Next.
  26. On the Restart Now button, click Restart.
  27. Your computer should restart and the Windows Update Troubleshooter should start.

3. If all else fails, try doing a clean install of Windows

  1. If you are using Windows 8.1 or 10, open the Settings app.
  2. Click on the Update & security tab.
  3. Click on the Recovery tab.
  4. Under Recovery mode, click on the Get started button.
  5. Click on the Choose how to recover your computer from a backup button.
  6. Click on theChoose a recovery drive button.
