What is the 0x8024002e error and how do I fix it?

0x8024002e is a Windows Update error code. This error code happens when the Windows Update service is not able to connect to the Windows Update server. This can happen if the Windows Update server is down, or if the computer is not connected to the internet.

1. Restart your computer and try again

  1. Open the Start Menu and click on "Restart"
  2. Click on "Restart now"
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions

2. Check your internet connection and try again

  1. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" by clicking on the "Network and Sharing Center" icon on the taskbar, or by going to "Control Panel" and selecting "Network and Sharing Center".
  2. Click on the "View network status and troubleshoot issues" link.
  3. If your internet connection is working, you will see a list of active networks. If it is not working, your computer will show an error message telling you what is wrong.
  4. If you are having trouble connecting to the internet, try the following:
  • Check your internet connection by entering your internet service provider's (ISP) name or IP address in the "Internet addresses" box. If you are connected to the internet, the IP address should show in the "IP address" box. If you are not connected to the internet, the "IP address" box should say "Not connected."
  • Make sure that your computer is connected to the same network as your router.
  • Make sure that your computer is turned on and has the latest updates installed.
  • Try using a different computer or phone to connect to the internet.
  • Try rebooting your computer.
  • Try using a different browser.

3. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and try again

  1. Open the antivirus software and click on the "Tools" tab.
  2. Click on the "Temporarily Disable" button.
  3. Confirm the disable by clicking on the "Yes" button.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Try to start your computer and install the latest software updates.

4. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and try again

Open the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Select "Troubleshoot problems with Windows Update." On the first page, under "Problem type," click "Windows Update." On the next page, under "Update history," click "Check for updates." If there are any updates, the Troubleshooter will attempt to install them. If there are any errors, the Troubleshooter will tell you what they are and offer to fix them. If you have an internet connection, you can also try to update your computer using the "Check for updates" button on the "Windows Update" page.

5. Clear the Windows Update cache and try again

  1. Launch the Windows Update utility.
  2. In the left navigation pane, select your device or local area network.
  3. In the right pane, select Settings.
  4. Under the General tab, clear the checkbox next to Run Windows Update automatically.
  5. Under the Updates tab, click on the arrow next to the 0x8024002e entry.
  6. Under the Action column, click on the Clear button.
  7. Click on the OK button.
  8. Click on the Update Now button.
  9. Wait for the update to install.
  10. Once the update has completed, launch the Windows Update utility again.
  11. In the left navigation pane, select your device or local area network.
  12. In the right pane, select Check for updates.
  13. Under the General tab, click on the Update button.
  14. If the update is available, it will be listed under Available updates.
  15. Click on the Update now button.
  16. If the update is not available, the error message 0x8024002e will be listed.
  17. Click on the Download and install button.
  18. Once the update has completed, launch the Windows Update utility again.
  19. In the left navigation pane, select your device or local area network.
  20. In the right pane, select Check for updates.
  21. Under the General tab, click on the View all updates button.
  22. Click on the Update now button.
  23. If the update is not available, the error message 0x8024002e will be listed.
  24. Click on the Download and install button.
