What does error code E02 mean on a whirlpool washer and how do I fix it?

Error code E02 on a Whirlpool washer indicates that the washer is not draining properly. This can be caused by a blockage in the drain hose or pump, or a problem with the drain pump itself. If the washer is not draining properly, it will eventually stop working altogether.

1. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged

  1. Remove the drain hose from the washer.
  2. Inspect the drain hose for kinks, cracks, or other signs of damage.
  3. If the drain hose is kinked or clogged, remove the kink or clog using a plunger or snake.
  4. Replace the drain hose if necessary.

2. Check the washer's drain pump to make sure it is not clogged or obstructed

  1. Open the washer's front panel.
  2. Find the drain pump and remove the impeller.
  3. Check the impeller for wear or damage. If the impeller is damaged, replace it.
  4. Check the drain hose for obstructions. If there are obstructions, remove them.
  5. Check the drain pump seal for wear or damage. If the seal is damaged, replace it.

3. Clean the washer's drain pump filter, if it has one

-Locate the filter on the underside of the washer drain pump. -Remove the filter by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. -Rinse the filter off with warm water. -Clean the filter housing and screws with a dry cloth. -Replace the filter and screw it in place.

4. Run a cycle with a vinegar and water solution to clean the washer's tub and hoses

To clean the tub and hoses in a whirlpool washer:

  1. Open the front door of the washer.
  2. Remove the top panel of the washer by unscrewing the four screws located near the top of the washer.
  3. Remove the tub.
  4. Wipe down the tub and hoses with a clean cloth.
  5. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the washer tub.
  6. Close the front door of the washer.
  7. Turn on the washer.
  8. Agitate the washer tub for several minutes.
  9. Remove the vinegar solution from the washer tub.
  10. Replace the top panel of the washer.
  11. Screw the four screws in place.

5. If the washer has a lint filter, clean it out

  1. Remove the lint filter.
  2. Empty the wash tub.
  3. Remove the screws that attach the washer top and front panel.
  4. Lift the top and front panel off the washer.
  5. Disconnect the water supply hose, drain hose, and power cord.
  6. Remove the four screws that hold the front panel to the washer tub.
  7. Unplug the washer.
  8. Clean the washer tub and lint filter.
  9. Replace the front panel, screws, and water supply hose.
  10. Replace the drain hose.
  11. reconnect the power cord.
  12. Replace the washer top and front panel.

6. Check the washer's water inlet hoses to make sure they are not kinked or clogged

  1. Turn off the water supply to the washer.
  2. Remove the water inlet hose from the washer.
  3. Inspect the hose for any kinks or clogs.
  4. If the hose is kinked or clogged, use a pipe cleaner to clean the kinks or clogs.
  5. Replace the water inlet hose if necessary.
  6. Turn on the water supply to the washer.
  7. Try to wash a load of laundry.
