The 0x8007274d error code indicates that a file needed by Windows to run a program has been damaged or is missing. This can happen if the program is installed on a drive that is different from the one Windows is installed on, or if the program is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using.
1. Restart your computer
- If you are using a Windows operating system, open the Start menu and select "Control Panel".
- Under "System and Security" in the Control Panel, select "Restart".
- Select "Yes" to restart the computer.
- After the computer restarts, select "Advanced Options" and select "Reboot".
- Select "Reboot now" and wait for the computer to restart.
- After the computer restarts, select "Windows Update" and select "Check for updates".
- If there are any updates available, install them.
- After the updates are installed, select "Windows Update" and select "OK".
- Select "Windows Update" and select "OK".
- Select "Control Panel" and under "System and Security" in the Control Panel, select "Restart".
- Select "Yes" to restart the computer.
- After the computer restarts, select "Advanced Options" and select "Reboot".
- Select "Reboot now" and wait for the computer to restart.
- After the computer restarts, select "Windows Update" and select "Check for updates".
- If there are any updates available, install them.
- After the updates are installed, select "Windows Update" and select "OK".
- Select "Control Panel" and under "System and Security" in the Control Panel, select "Restart".
- Select "Yes" to restart the computer.
- After the computer restarts, select "Advanced Options" and select "Reboot".
- Select "Reboot now" and wait for the computer to restart.
- After the computer restarts, select "Windows Update" and select "Check for updates".
- If there are any updates available, install them.
- After the updates are installed, select "Windows Update" and select "OK".
- After the computer restarts, select "Control Panel" and under "System and Security" in the Control Panel, select "Restart".
- Select "Yes" to restart the computer.
2. Check for updates and install any that are available
- Open the Windows Update utility by clicking on the Start button, typing windows update, and clicking on the “Windows Update” tool.
- If there are any updates available, the Windows Update utility will show you a list of them.
- If you want to install any of the available updates, you can click on the “Install” button.
- The Windows Update utility will guide you through the installation process.
- If the update fails to install, you will receive an error message that includes the code 0x8007274d.
3. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
- Open Windows Update in Control Panel.
- Click on the Troubleshoot tab.
- Click on the Advanced option.
- Select the checkbox for Show advanced problems.
- Click on the Apply button.
- If the error code still persists, please continue with the following steps.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select the checkboxes for Update your computer and Check for updates, and then click on the Next button.
- Select the checkbox for Automatically determine and install updates, and then click on the Next button.
- Select the checkbox for Download updates for me, and then click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
- If the update still fails, please continue with the following steps.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select the checkboxes for Install updates from a specific location and Restart now, and then click on the Next button.
- Select the checkbox for Installation options, and then click on the Next button.
- Select the checkbox for Use recommended settings, and then click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
4. Reset the Windows Update Components
- Open the Control Panel.
- Under the System and Security category, click on the Windows Update icon.
- On the Windows Update screen, click on the View Update History link.
- On the Update History screen, click on the Update Details button.
- Under the Update Details heading, click on the Details button.
- Under the Details heading, click on the Update Type heading.
- Under the Update Type heading, click on the Reset button.
- On the Reset Windows Update Components screen, click on the Reset button.
- On the Confirm Reset Windows Update Components screen, click on the Reset button.
- On the Success message screen, click on the Close button.
5. Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder
- Open the Control Panel.
- Under the Programs and Features section, click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click on the Remove button next to the SoftwareDistribution folder.
- Click on the Yes button when prompted to delete the folder.
- Restart your computer.
6. Try to install the updates again
- Start the computer and sign in.
- Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Windows Update, and then click Check for updates.
- If an update is available, the Update window opens.
- Click Install.
- Follow the instructions in the Update window.
