There is no exact reason why error code 8224 occurs in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but it seems to be related to the game's servers. The error code prevents players from connecting to online multiplayer games, and is often accompanied by the message "Connection Failed. Please try again later." There have been reports of the error code occurring when trying to connect to specific game modes, such as Exo Survival and Exo Zombies.
