1. Replace the PS038
- Remove the two screws holding the PS038 in place.
- Carefully remove the PS038 from its housing.
- Replace the PS038 with a new one.
- Reattach the screws holding the PS038 in place.
2. Replace the power supply
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer.
- Unscrew the panel on the back of the computer that gives you access to the inside.
- Find the power supply inside the computer and unplug all of the cables going into it.
- Carefully remove the power supply from the computer.
- Install the new power supply into the computer and plug all of the cables back in.
- Screw the panel back on and plug the power cord back in.
- Turn on the computer and check to see if the problem is fixed.
3. Replace the motherboard
- Turn off your PlayStation 3 console and disconnect it from the power source.
- Remove the hard drive from the console.
- Unscrew the four screws on the back of the PlayStation 3 that hold the top cover in place.
- Lift the top cover off of the console.
- Unscrew the two screws that hold the Blu-ray drive in place.
- Slide the Blu-ray drive out of the console.
- Unscrew the four screws that hold the metal plate in place.
- Remove the metal plate.
- Unscrew the four screws that hold the motherboard in place.
- Carefully lift the motherboard out of the console.
- Place the new motherboard into the console.
- Screw the four screws back into place.
- Replace the metal plate.
- Screw the two screws back into place.
- Slide the Blu-ray drive back into the console.
- Screw the four screws back into place.
- Replace the hard drive.
- Screw the four screws back into place on the top cover.
- Reconnect the power source and turn on the console.
4. Replace the processor
- Power down the computer and unplug all cables.
- Remove the computer case.
- Find the existing processor and note its orientation.
- Remove the existing processor from its socket.
- Insert the new processor into the socket, orienting it the same way as the old processor.
- Replace any cooling fans or heat sinks that were removed.
- Replace the computer case and reconnect all cables.
- Power on the computer and check for proper operation.
