Windows error 13

Windows error 13 is a registry error and happens frequently.

1. Run DISM command with sfc /scannow command

Windows error 13 could be caused by a corrupt registry. You may want to use DISM command to download the missing file and SFC command to check for error which will also be fixed. The video below will show you how to run the commands.

2. Run CCleaner

Windows error 13 could be caused by a corrupt registry. Another tool that could clean and fix your registry is CCleaner. You may download the tool herethen run the installer. See instruction below on how to use CCleaner to repair your registry.

  1. Run CCleaner.
  2. Click Registry.
  3. Check all checkbox.
  4. Then click Scan for Issues. Wait until it is finished.
  5. Then click Fix selected issues. Wait until it is finished.
  6. Then restart your computer.

3. Update or Reinstall Driver

If the "Windows error 13" persists, access safe mode. If the error did not appear in safe the caused could be a hardware driver. If so, uninstall the driver, then reinstall it, or update the current driver using the device manager update driver function.

To access Safe Mode in Windows 10

  1. Restart your computer while holding the Shift key.
  2. Then choose Troubleshoot >> Advanced Options >>>Startup Settings >> Restart.
  3. Wait until it boots up into Startup Settings
  4. Then select Safe mode or Safe mode with Network so you could update driver via the online.

While for Windows 7

  1. Restart your computer and continuously press the F8 key while it is still booting into the Windows.
  2. Then in Advance Option select Safe mode or Safe mode with Network so you could update driver via the online.

If you have not encountered the pop-up message Windows error 13, it means something is wrong with your hardware driver. To uninstall it, go to Control panel and uninstall driver have installed. Or go to Device Manager and update all driver one by one, see instructions below.

  1. Right-click Windows start and select Device Manager.
  2. Right-click a hardware device.
  3. Select Update driver, and then select Search Automatically for updated driver software.
  4. Wait for the process to finish and then restart your computer.
  5. Check if the error still exists.

4. Perform a System restore scan for affected program

If you recently did a Windows update or a System change such as Windows Upgrade. Windows error 13 could be due to an error in your installed third-party software. It could be incompatible with the Windows update/upgrade. To fix this, do a system restore scan to the affected program.

  1. In the Control Panel access the Recovery.
  2. Next, click Open System Restore.
  3. Select the latest Restoration point.
  4. Next press the button with Scan for affected programs on its name.
  5. When finished, see if Windows error 13 is fixed.
