How to Fix Windows Update Error 0x80080008?

The windows update error 0x80080008 is a very common error code that is caused by a problem with the Windows Update service. This error code can be caused by a number of things, but the most common cause is a corrupt or damaged Windows Update service. This error code can also be caused by a problem with the registry, or by a virus or malware infection.

1. Restart your computer and try again

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Type "cmd" in the Start search box.
  3. Right click on the "cmd" shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".
  4. Type "regedit" and press Enter.
  5. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
  6. Right click on the WindowsUpdate key and select "Properties".
  7. On the General tab, under the "Startup Type" heading, select "Automatic (Delayed Start)".
  8. Under the "Settings" heading, make sure that the "Check for updates" box is checked and click on the "Settings" button.
  9. Under the "Advanced" tab, make sure that the "Check for updates at startup" box is checked and click on the "OK" button.
  10. Click on the "Restart" button.
  11. When the computer restarts, check for updates and install any that are available.

2. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

  1. Open the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
  2. In the left pane, click on the "Update Troubleshooter" button.
  3. In the right pane, click on the "Advanced" button.
  4. In the "Advanced" window, click on the "Troubleshoot" button.
  5. In the "Troubleshoot" window, click on the "Windows Update" button.
  6. In the "Windows Update" window, click on the "Check for updates" button.
  7. In the "Check for updates" window, click on the "Install updates" button.
  8. In the "Install updates" window, click on the "OK" button.
  9. In the "OK" window, click on the "Close" button.

3. Clear the Windows Update Cache

  1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Type "wusa.exe /uninstall" and press Enter.
  3. Type "wusa.exe /update" and press Enter.
  4. Type "reboot" and press Enter.

4. Reset the Windows Update Components

  1. Open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel".
  2. Under "System and Security", click on "Windows Update".
  3. On the "Windows Update" screen, click on the "Reset Windows Update Components" button.
  4. Click on the "Reset" button.
  5. Click on the "Yes" button.
  6. Click on the "Close" button.

5. Delete the SoftwareDistribution Folder

  1. Open the Start Menu, type "cmd" and hit enter.
  2. At the command prompt, type "dism /online /cleanup-image /add-package /packagepath:" and hit enter.
  3. For example, to delete the SoftwareDistribution folder on my computer, I would type "dism /online /cleanup-image /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution"
  4. When the command prompt finishes, you'll see a message telling you that the operation completed successfully.
  5. Close the command prompt, and restart your computer.

6. Re-register the Windows Update DLL files

  1. Delete the old Windows Update DLL files.
  2. Copy the Windows Update DLL files to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Try to update the computer.
