The directv error code 771 happens when the satellite dish is not receiving a strong enough signal. This can be caused by a number of things, including bad weather, a dish that is not properly aligned, or a problem with the satellite itself.

1. Check all connections between the TV and the satellite receiver

  1. Make sure all cables are plugged in properly.
  2. Check to see if the TV is turned on.
  3. Check to see if the satellite receiver is turned on.
  4. If the TV is turned on and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a satellite signal.
  5. If the TV is getting a satellite signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a directv signal.
  6. If the TV is getting a directv signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a digital signal.
  7. If the TV is getting a digital signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a 3-d signal.
  8. If the TV is getting a 3-d signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting an analog signal.
  9. If the TV is getting an analog signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a RF signal.
  10. If the TV is getting a RF signal and the satellite receiver is turned on, check to see if the TV is getting a digital signal.
  11. If the TV is getting a digital signal, check to see if the TV is getting a directv signal.
  12. If the TV is getting a directv signal, check to see if the TV is getting an analog signal.
  13. If the TV is getting an analog signal, check to see if the TV is getting a 3-d signal.
  14. If the TV is getting a 3-d signal, check to see if the TV is getting a RF signal.
  15. If the TV is getting a RF signal, check to see if the TV is getting a digital signal.
  16. If the TV is getting a digital signal, turn off the TV and then turn on the satellite receiver.
  17. If the TV is getting a digital signal and the satellite receiver is turned off, turn on the TV and then turn on the satellite receiver.

2. If you have a splitter, make sure that it is connected correctly and that all connections are tight

  1. Check that the Splitter is connected correctly to your TV and the components it is connecting to.
  2. Check that all connections are tight.
  3. If the issue is with the TV, try a different input or switch the TV to a different input.
  4. If the issue is with the Splitter, try a different Splitter.

3. Check the signal strength of your satellite signal

  1. Go to www.directv.com/satellite and sign in.
  2. Under "My Account" on the left, click on "View Signal Strength."
  3. On the page that pops up, you'll see your satellite signal strength in numbers (e.g. 3 bars).
  4. To check your signal strength in real time, click on the "Live Signal" button.
  5. If your signal is weak, you'll see a message like "Your signal is too weak to watch TV."
  6. To make sure your signal is getting stronger, you can try moving to a better location or boosting your signal by connecting an antenna.

  1. If you are still having trouble, you can try resetting your receiver. To do this, unplug the power cord from the back of the receiver and then plug it back in. Wait for the receiver to reboot and then try again.
