How to fix Error 0x80070002?

The 0x80070002 error is a Windows-specific error that occurs when a file or directory required for a program to run is missing. This can happen when a program is installed or uninstalled, or when a file is deleted. The 0x80070002 error can also occur if a program is trying to access a file that is not on the computer.

  10. Close the Norton window. McAfee Antivirus:

  11. Open the Start menu and type "McAfee" into the search bar.

  12. Click on the first result that comes up.

  13. In the McAfee window that opens, click on the "Settings" tab at the top.

  14. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings list and turn off the "Antivirus" option.

  15. Close the McAfee window.

7. Check your computer's System Restore points

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  2. From the System Restore window, click on the "Create a new restore point" option
  3. In the next window, give your restore point a name and description, then click on the "Create" button
  4. Once the restore point is created, click on the "Close" button
  5. To check your computer's system restore points, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  6. From the System Restore window, click on the "Restore my computer to an earlier time" option
  7. In the next window, select the most recent restore point from the "On this list, click a restore point" list, then click on the "Next" button
  8. In the next window, click on the "Finish" button
  9. Your computer will now restart and you should see the "System Restore Complete" window when it finishes

8. Run the System File Checker tool

Click Start, and then type cmd in the Search box. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

9. Run the DISM tool

  1. Download the DISM tool from the Microsoft website.
  2. Run the downloaded file to install the tool.
  3. Open the DISM tool and select the option to "Fix errors".
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to fix error 0x80070002.

10. Reset your computer to a restore point

  1. Open System Restore by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
  3. Click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
  4. Click Finish.
