Solution 1. Reconnect Blu Ray drive flex ribbon cable

“PS3 error code 8002f14e” is likely caused by the Blu Ray drive flex ribbon cable’s loss of contact with the PS3 mainboard. If your PS3 has a warranty send your PS3 for warranty claim. If the warranty is out, reconnect the Blu Ray drive flex ribbon cable. See instructions and image below.

  1. Open your PS3.
  2. Under the Blu Ray drive a flex ribbon cable that is connected to your Blu Ray drive and Mainboard.

  3. Disconnect it from both sides.
  4. Look for an eraser, clean the gold pin.
  5. Reconnect it.
  6. Turn on your PS3 and do an update.
  7. If the update fails, tape both sides with an electrical tape.
  8. The amount of electrical tape should apply pressure to the clip that locks the flex ribbon cable when the Blu Ray drive is installed.
  9. Turn on your PS3 and do an update.

Solution 2. Reconnect hard disk drive (HDD)

“PS3 error code 8002f14e” could also be due to your HDD. Reconnecting the HDD to your PS3 may fix the problem. If the update does not proceed, try the tips below.

  1. Open the HDD bay and connect the PS3 controller.
  2. Update your PS3.
  3. When the update starts, remove the HDD.
  4. Do not restart the PS3, let it do the countdown.
  5. Wait for the message that will reformat your HDD then connect the HDD.
    Repeat if it does not appear.
  6. Press the PS3 button on the controller.
  7. Then, select press Start and Select.
  8. Decline the user agreements.
  9. It should load the PS3 startup screen
