Xbox 360 error code 0102, also called Red ring of death, is an error that usually occurs when your hardware is messed up.

Solution 1. Send Xbox 360 to a Service Center

“Xbox 360 error code 0102” may be due to a CPU, GPU or Memory chip semi-detach from the Xbox 360 mainboard. The detachment is unnoticeable because a chip has many solder joints. If one of this solder joint is broken or detached,  the chip will malfunction. The detachment may be caused by overheating. Solder joints are soldering lead that melts when a specific heat is meet.

So if you have encountered an “Xbox 360 error code 0102,” rather than fixing it temporarily, send it to Xbox service center for a warranty claim or repair. If the warranty is null, some technician could fix this by reflowing/reball chips.

Solution 2. Temporary fix

“Xbox 360 error code 0102” may be due to a CPU, GPU or Memory chip semi-detach from the Xbox 360 mainboard.  As stated above, solder joint broke when it meets a specific heat. However, solder joint can be fixed by applying heat. If you are on a low budget, and your Xbox 360 is out of warranty, the options below. It could temporarily fix your Xbox 360. However, this could break your Xbox 360 too.

Option 1. Let Xbox Overheat

  1. To overheat an Xbox 360, block the fan so the fan won’t propel.
  2. Cover the Xbox 360 exhaust.
  3. Turn it on.
  4. Let it run until you saw the two LED light at the left ringside of the power button light up
  5. Shut it off by unplugging it.
  6. Let it cool.
  7. Then remove the cover and the tool that prevent the fan to propel.
  8. Then turn it on, see if it fix.

Option 2. Use a Hair bower

  1. Open your Xbox 360.
  2. Use the hair blower to apply heat from the heat sink and heat pipe for at least 8 minutes.
  3. Let it cool down.
  4. Then turn it on, see if it fix.

Option 3. Using heat Gun

  1. Open your Xbox 360.
  2. Remove the motherboard from the case.

  3. Base on the image above the 2 chip inside the box, remove the thermal paste from the chip.
  4. Heat it using the soldering heat gun.
  5. The soldering heat gun should be moving from the first chip to the second chip for at least ten minutes at 350-degree Celcius.
  6. Let it cool.
  7. Put a thermal paste on the  chips
  8. Connect the heat sink.
  9. Put it back on the case but don’t close it yet.
  10. Turn it on, if it boots without error e73 turn it off.
    If failed, repeat from step 3.
  11. Connect all peripherals.
  12. Turn it on, see if it fix.
