Solution 1. Check disk format and location

“Mageia Grub error 17” may be due to running Mageia to a partition that is not supported by it, such as FAT and NTFS, or the partition being use is incorrect. To fix the problem, delete the hard disk drive (HDD) partition to unallocated. Then create a partition for Linux and install it correct using this HDD guide: root (h0,0) means the first 0 is the first hard drive and the second 0 is the partition on that drive.

Solution 2. Test Hard Disk Drive

“Mageia Grub error 17″ can also be caused by your hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD might be broken or it is starting to fail. You may want to connect that HDD to a working computer with a running operating system and test the HDD for any bad sector. If found defective, claim warranty if possible or replace it.
