How do you fix HP error code 0xc0000185?

The hp error code 0xc0000185 indicates that there is a problem with the boot sector of the hard drive. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including a corrupted file, a virus, or a hardware issue. When this error code occurs, it is usually accompanied by a message saying "unable to boot from device." This means that the computer is unable to read the boot sector, and as a result, it cannot start up. In order to fix this error, you will need to use a bootable disk or USB drive to access the hard drive and fix the boot sector.

1. Restart your computer

  1. Locate the Power Button on the computer.
  2. When you find the Power Button, push and hold it down for several seconds until you see the Windows logo appear onscreen.
  3. Continue to hold down the Power Button as you press the Restart button.
  4. When you see the Windows logo appear again, release the Power Button and wait for your computer to restart.
  5. After your computer restarts, open the Start Menu and select Settings.
  6. In the Settings window, select System and then Advanced settings.
  7. In the Advanced settings window, select Startup and Recovery.
  8. In the Startup and Recovery window, select Restart.
  9. Select OK to restart your computer.

2. Check for updates

  1. Go to Start, type "cmd" and press Enter.
  2. Type "wuauclt.exe /detectnow" and press Enter.
  3. If an update is available, the computer will update automatically. If an update is not available, the computer will display an error message.
  4. If an update is available, the computer will display a message about how to install the update.
  5. If an update is not available, the computer will display an error message.

3. Run the Windows 10 Startup Repair tool

The Windows 10 Startup Repair tool can be used to fix hp error code 0xc0000185. To start the tool, open the Start menu, type "startup Repair," and then press Enter.

  1. On the Start menu, click Repair your computer.
  2. If you are prompted to provide a user account name and password, type the administrator account name and password.
  3. Click Next.
  4. On the Choose a task to perform screen, click Startup Repair.
  5. If you are prompted to select a problem category, click Troubleshoot problems.
  6. On the Select a problem to troubleshoot screen, click HP Error Code 0xc0000185.
  7. If you are prompted to select a specific problem, click HP Error Code 0xc0000185 (not sure).
  8. On the Select a solution screen, click Troubleshoot.
  9. If you are prompted to select a specific option, click Run the solution.
  10. On the Run the solution screen, click Repair your computer.
  11. If you are prompted to select a destination for the repaired files, click Local Disk (C:).
  12. If you are prompted to select a destination for the repaired files, click The destination for repaired files.
  13. If you are prompted to confirm the repair, click Repair.
  14. When the repair is complete, click Finish.

4. Run a virus scan

  1. Open the Start menu and click on “Control Panel”.
  2. On the Control Panel window, click on “Virus Scan”.
  3. In the “Virus Scan” window, click on “Scan Now”.
  4. In the “Scan Now” window, click on “OK”.
  5. The virus scan will start.
  6. After the virus scan is complete, click on “OK”.
  7. The “Virus Scan Results” window will open.
  8. In the “Virus Scan Results” window, click on “Fix Errors”.
  9. In the “Fix Errors” window, click on “Fix All”.
  10. The “Fix All” window will open.
  11. In the “Fix All” window, click on “OK”.
  12. After the “Fix All” process is complete, click on “Close”.

  3. Restore your computer to a previous restore point.
  4. Perform a factory reset.
