How to fix OneNote error code 0x80070005?

This error code indicates that there is a problem with the OneNote application. This can be caused by several things, including an outdated or corrupt application, an incorrect or corrupt registry entry, or a virus or other malware infection.

1. Restart your computer

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. In the Windows Start menu, click "Shutdown."
  3. In the Shut Down dialog box, click "Restart."
  4. In the Restart dialog box, click "OK."
  5. In the Windows System Properties dialog box, click "Startup Settings."
  6. In the Startup Settings dialog box, click "Restart."
  7. In the Restart dialog box, click "OK."
  8. When your computer restarts, it will start up with the last settings you had in the Startup Settings dialog box.

2. Update OneNote to the latest version

  1. Open the Microsoft OneNote application.
  2. Click File and then click Account.
  3. Click the Update button in the Account box.
  4. In the Update OneNote dialog box, review the available updates and click the Install button.
  5. When the update is complete, click OK.

3. Run the Windows Store App Troubleshooter

  1. Open the Windows Store App Troubleshooter.
  2. Choose the app that is giving you the error and click on the "Next" button.
  3. On the "App Troubleshooting" screen, click on the "Troubleshoot" button.
  4. Choose the "Windows Store App Errors" option.
  5. On the "Windows Store App Errors" screen, click on the "Next" button.
  6. On the "Troubleshooting Options" screen, choose the "Check for updates" option.
  7. If there are any updates available for the app, they will be listed. If there are no updates available, the "Check for updates" option will be grayed out.
  8. Click on the "Install updates" button.
  9. If the updates are installed successfully, the "Check for updates" option will be grayed out and the "Completed" button will be visible. If the updates are not installed successfully, the "Check for updates" option will be lit, and you will be able to follow the instructions on the "Update Failed" screen to install the updates.

4. Reset or reinstall OneNote

  1. Open OneNote and click File > Options > Advanced.
  2. Under the General tab, click Reset.
  3. Click Reset again.
  4. Under the Advanced tab, click Reset again.
  5. Click OK.
  6. OneNote will close and restart. When it opens, it will have the default settings.
