How do I fix the P0442 code?

The P0442 code means that there is a small leak in the evaporative emission control system. This is often caused by a faulty or damaged gas cap, but can also be caused by a leak in the EVAP system itself. The code will often trigger the check engine light, and the vehicle may run a bit rough.

1. Check the gas cap to ensure it is tight and free of cracks or leaks

  5. Clean the purge valve assembly and install it on the replacement valve (3)
  6. Install the front bumper cover
  7. Verify the EVAP system is properly primed and charging
