How do I fix error code 0xc0000064?

Error code 0xc0000064 is a Windows-specific error code that indicates a problem with the way the operating system is trying to access a file. This can be caused by a number of things, including a corrupt file, a file that is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using, or a file that has been damaged by a virus.

1. Restart your computer

  1. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your computer.
  2. After the computer has turned off, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to restart it.
  3. If the computer does not restart, you can try to restart it by pressing the restart button on your computer or by pressing the power button on your modem/router.

2. Check for updates to Windows and install any that are available

  1. In the "Control Panel" window, on the "System and Security" tab, under "Windows Update"
  2. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Check for updates"
  3. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Install updates"
  4. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Browse my updates"
  5. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Select updates"
  6. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Update options"
  7. In the "Windows Update" window, under "Install updates"

  9. If there are any updates that are available, click on "Install updates"
  10. If there are any updates that are available, click on "Confirm installation."
  11. When the updates are installed, click on "Close" in the "Windows Update" window.

3. Run the System File Checker tool to repair corrupted files

  1. Open the System File Checker tool by typing "systemfilechecker" into the Start Menu or Cortana search box.
  2. Click on the "Scan for Issues" button.
  3. Select the appropriate drive or folders where the corrupted files are located.
  4. Click on the "Repair All" button.
  5. If the repair process is successful, the tool will provide a message indicating as such. If not, the tool will provide a list of the corrupt files and a suggested solution.

4. Perform a clean boot of Windows to help troubleshoot software conflicts

To clean boot Windows, first press the "Windows key + R" to open the Run dialog box, type "msconfig" and hit Enter. In the System Configuration window, select the "Boot" tab, and under "Boot options" select "Clean boot." Click "OK" to apply the changes and restart Windows. If the error code 0xc0000064 persists, then it is likely due to a software conflict. To fix the conflict, you'll need to resolve the issue that is causing the error code.

5. Run the DISM tool to repair corrupted system files

  1. Open the Command Prompt window.
  2. Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. If the command completes successfully, DISM will display a message stating that the operation completed successfully.
